About Us

For more than a century, the historic Lazy B Ranch has been a productive, large-scale working cattle operation.  Located in southern Arizona near the Gila river, the ranch spans thousands of acres across the Sonoran desert.  Year-round grazing naturally offers year-round calving, resulting in a longstanding, proven production.

At the heart of this lasting operation is the Lazy B working ranch horse.  Quality bloodlines by our AQHA stallions Duke Joe Jack and Metallic Gun, are bred, born and raised on the open ranges that they eventually go to work on.

From our weanlings to our remuda,

the Lazy B Quarter Horse has substantial size, a tough foot and a western heart.

Training Program

As weanlings, the Lazy B Quarter Horse begins their training with halterbreaking, picking up feet, learning to send left & right, and trailer-loading, before being turned back out with a baby-sitter mare to grow up and learn to move in the desert. Spring of their two-year-old birthday, they are shuttled off the range for the second time and begin their 90 day foundation training with professional ranch performance trainers, to learn ground work and be lightly started under saddle, before being turned out again to continue to grow. At three, our colts go once more into training to have a refresher course before joining the Remuda, being selected to show in AQHA shows, or put up for sale. Because we know the working ranch horse needs a quality foundation to excel at the many challenges posed by their tough job, we privilege foundational training above all.

We are proud to produce confident, conformationally steller and foundationally strong equine known for athleticism, trainability and heart. Our horses are exceptionally gifted as rope horses and ranch horses, but are equally qualified

for any western discipline!
